52 Mondays: Spring Session

Something we made.

So, here's the thing. 12 years ago when my daughter was still tiny I started a blog. I called it 'something we made' as I am a crafter, and I wanted to share the things that I was making at home that brought me joy. I hardly got started before fear took over and I hid inside for over a decade. I kept making, but was far too scared to share.

Then I met this incredibly wise and kind hearted woman called Krista. I first followed her words from afar through facebook, then I found the courage to ask her to help me find my voice, and try to untangle this fear of mine. And now, together, we have made something. And it's something I'm very proud of.

So, in helping me to understand why I feel I need to hide, she's also shined her light on the other side of me, and that is the side of me that is brave enough to connect, and to collaborate, and find ways to work within these boundaries of mine. By becoming more aware of my struggles, I've also become more aware of my strengths... and this is something that I think everyone could benefit from. The discovery of their treasures that they keep hidden within.

This journal is a baby step in that direction, Krista's beautiful reflections of hope and encouragement will help you pause and consider the way you show up day by day. And there's a little doodle from me each week, inspired by her words.

It isn't perfect, we've self-published it using Amazon as neither of us want to take the risk of getting a big batch printed. So the cover is flimsy and the pages don't lie completely flat. I hope you will see through these imperfections and enjoy the process of journalling. As I do believe that the act of taking time to reflect and write (or draw!) each day is an incredible tool of self discovery.
If you know anyone who you think might like it, we'd obviously both be incredibly grateful for you to scatter the love far and wide. x

Soul Meditations

There is something about sharing the things I love that makes me shimmer inside. This book is one of those things… You know when you find things that reach inside you like that and you want to buy a boatfull of them so that you can share them with every single soul you see. On opening the beautiful parcel I got from Raw Mixture yesterday I was honestly taken aback by how much love I felt pouring out. Bear with me. I know that sounds so woo-woo and I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.
You see, the thing about these books is that they come from a small soulful creative family unit. Their words and images are woven with such heart that it makes me overflow with happiness. On walking this morning I admit that I was jealous. Steve wrote these words that speak to me, and his daughter Ruth drew the images that sing to me (so loudly!), and I wished that I’d created something like that with my dad. Yet, here’s the thing. Instead of mourning what never was, I have decided that I can still honour his gifts and weave them into the world. Like this. Sharing what we love is important, as it scatters our gifts, and the world is brighter for it.
I’d encourage you all to go and say hello to Mary (Steve’s wife and Ruth’s mother) the lightkeeper. She is doing the work of trying to share their family’s precious gifts, and we all know that the lighthouse can get lonely at times.
I’m off to start building my boat!

My brother knows me. This was his gift to me… a truly beautiful, inspiring book. Incredibly moving words, art, photos and poetry all tied up with string. Not that I need an excuse to venture outside more, and yet…

Rock & Soul

I may well be biased here, as Emily and I worked together setting up Rock & Soul, but believe me when I tell you I know my smell, and these blends are the most beautiful ones I've come across. No joke. Emily is an apothecary like no other, and an incredibly kind hearted girl who's dream is to help spread more happiness around the world.
The benefits of essential oils are limitless, but their powers to help people manage their emotions are truly magical. Worth exploring for adults and kids who struggle with anxiety and sleeping especially.

The Happy Self Journal

I've just come across The Happy Self Journal which has been lovingly created by Francesca (and her kids!) to promote happiness, develop positive habits and nurture enquiring minds. Sold! I'm also keen to check out her Podcast too, as it sounds right up my street!

Smallest Light

Laura creates the most lovely seasonal aromatherapy candles over in Wales. They are delightful. I'm yet to find a kid who doesn't love candles, and it's a great way to get the benefits of aromatherapy, alongside the joy of the candle light. I'd love to find out more behind the name, but for now I love "The smallest light still shines in the darkest night."
